Also, the beaches are clean. The local atmosphere is more relaxed. This makes it a good place for beginners. It is also a dream place for advanced surfers.

The Best Time to Surf in Lombok

If you want to get the best waves, timing is very important. This place’s surf season usually runs from May to September. During this time, the dry season brings steady swells. Also, the winds and tides are more stable. This makes it perfect for surfing. Some surfers also like the wet season from October to April. During this time, the waves can still be good. Also, the beaches are less crowded at this time.

If you are a beginner, then mornings are the best time for you to practise. This is because the waves are smaller and easier to handle. Advanced surfers usually go in the afternoon when the swells get stronger.

What Beginners Should Know?

Are you new to surfing? Then, this is a safe place to start. Many surf schools and local guides give lessons. They help you learn the basics, like

  • Ways to balance on the board
  • They teach you to paddle
  • You also learn ways to catch small waves.

In this friendly environment, beginners feel comfortable in the water.

The key advice is to take things slowly. Do not rush to try big waves. Focus first on balance and timing. Never ignore safety. With practice, confidence will grow.

Tips for Experienced Surfers

For advanced riders, this place has some of the most powerful waves in Indonesia. Desert Point. It is also called Bangko-Bangko. It is famous among professionals for having one of the longest rides in the world. Mawi Beach and Ekas are also popular for strong swells.

But these spots can be tough. The reefs are sharp. Also, the waves are strong. Experienced surfers need to respect the sea. They must wear proper gear. They should be prepared for challenging conditions.

Essential Gear and Preparation

Before you hit the waves, you should have the right kit. It can make your Lombok Surfing experience much better and safer.

  • First, a suitable surfboard is important. Beginners can rent soft-top boards from local surf schools. Experienced surfers, on the other hand, may get their own boards.
  • Always wear a rash guard and a swim shirt. This protects your skin from sunburn and irritation from the board.
  • Reef shoes are also helpful when surfing near rocky areas and coral reefs.
  • Along with clothing and boards, always carry sunscreen. Make sure to carry sunscreen with high SPF. This is because the sun here is strong. Staying hydrated is important. So, bring water and coconut water. Drink it between sessions.
  • Learn basic surf etiquette. You should respect other surfers in the water. Always wait for your turn. Be aware of your surroundings. A short warm-up before paddling out can prevent muscle strain. It can make your surf session smoother.
  • Finally, check local weather. Also, check tide conditions before heading out. You must have knowledge of wind direction. In addition, you must know about swell size and currents.

All this information can keep you safe. Plus, it can help you pick the best times to surf. Proper preparation makes sure that your time in this place is not just fun. But it is also comfortable and safe.

They share stories of the day’s waves. This relaxed lifestyle is part of what makes surfing in Lombok so special. It is more than about riding waves. It is about connecting with nature and people.

How to Stay Safe While Surfing?

Amazing team, so warm and welcoming. Food was so good and so fresh. Rooms were lovely. Surf coaches were super. Also really great to be situated just beyond the craziness of the main strip in town.

What an incredible experience at DHM surf camp. The accommodation and home base in its entirety is stunning (looks so much better in person than the photos), nestled in a quiet part of Kuta but close enough to still have access to all of the best parts of the city too. The people who work there are incredible - nothing is too much to ask, they are all so friendly and more than happy to help in any way they can. The food is delicious, and the two meals a day are a great way to stay fueled for the two surfs a day. The surf coaches are incredible - not only highly skilled, but also just lovely and engaging people who are really focused on ensuring you both enjoy and improve with your surfing. They’re often the loudest and most encouraging coaches out in the waves, and create such a great atmosphere for everyone. You’ll get to know Lola (resident cat) and enjoy the yoga in an incredible location. I can’t wait to return to Kuta and will definitely be staying at DHM again 🏄

We spent 2 weeks at the DHM Surf Camp. The accommodation was top‑notch — we loved the clean and comfortable rooms with AC and appliances like a TV, fridge, and kettle. Every day we received fresh towels, refilled water bottles, and a thoroughly cleaned room and bathroom. And I mean really clean. There was also a swimming pool and several common areas for relaxing or eating, equipped with a pool table, books, refreshments, and music. There is also a working restaurant service with breakfast, dinner and snacks. The staff — both the accommodation team and the trainers — were VERY helpful, communicative, and genuinely caring about whether everything was okay during our stay. If you need anything they will magically make it happen. A big shout‑out to Javi, Pian and most of all Kai, our instructor, who had a constantly positive attitude, more patience than all of us combined, and always believed in us. He gave us great advice throughout the whole course. Surf students get an individual approach, photo analysis sessions, may participate in gym classes and yoga classes, which we highly recommend. DHM can make a surfer even from someone as hot-headed and wooden as me. All in all, we had an unforgettable time with DHM. We hope to come back there one day 😉

All of the staff are great, always A great vibe and so happy to help. Afvila Is amazing and very friendly she helped me learn some Indonesian and took care of everything for me from day one. My surf Coach was Khay, He helped me improve so much over the trip. He takes his job very seriously and make sure to get you on plenty of waves with some form of instruction after every wave. super happy with his coaching and my progression over the course of my stay.
